Watch: PM Lawrence Wong delivers May Day speech

SINGAPORE: Prime Minister Lawrence Wong on Friday (May 1) delivered his May Day Rally speech to more than 1,600 union leaders and tripartite partners in Downtown East, outlining how Singapore will navigate growing global and technological uncertainties.

He acknowledged the "massive" impact of AI, with some jobs changing or disappearing, but pledged that new and better jobs will be created - and that every worker will be supported through the transition.

Mr Wong also pointed to the Middle East conflict, warning of persisting supply disruptions and rising inflation.

"Singapore will feel the impact directly," he said.

Even so, Singapore can look ahead with "quiet confidence", he added.

"We do not face this crisis from a position of weakness. We are better prepared - and in a much stronger position today," he said.
